Hernando De Soto the founder of Bradenton homes
|
The De Soto expedition is believed to have landed in Bradenton in 1539 and its members were probably the first to build Bradenton Homes. These primitive homes would hardly have been classified as Bradenton Real Estate as the area did not really develop commercially until it became the core of Manatee County which was formed in 1855.The County taking its name and County seal from the Manatee, the huge sea cow that still populate the coastal waters of the area. Prior to De Soto, native Americans Inhabited the land for thousands of years but did little to improve their natural environment. This was left to European powers in particular the British and Spanish with Spain finally ceding control of Florida to the United States in the year 1819.
