For many people the mention of Osprey Florida real estate immediately brings to mind Osprey homes which sit on the fairways of The Oaks Golf course as they meander through the local habitat or luxury Osprey condominiums in the Oaks Preserve. Although both contain top quality Florida real estate there is much more to Osprey than the Magnificent Oaks Club.

The park grew significantly in the mid eighties when conservation work by Jon Thaxton to protect the Florida scrub Jay resulted in another 922 acres of land from nearby Palmer Ranch real estate being donated by the estate of Bertha Honore Palmer.
In 2008 local builder of Osprey homes Lee Wetherington donated a further 16 acres to buffer the park from his development at Willowbend Sub division which provides Osprey single family homes for an ever growing population.

If not for the generosity of the land donors much of the natural fauna and wildlife would have struggled to survive among the development that has taken place in Osprey over recent years. I am confident that all residents of Sarasota homes will agree that a huge debt of gratitude is owed to the aforementioned.
Blackburn Point is another Osprey landmark and is so named after the Spanish mariners who utilized the sheltered waters of Sarasota bay to anchor their galleons during trading missions to Florida. These trade missions resulted in a Spanish settlement, but they were not the first to build a Sarasota Home here. Evidence unearthed by the discovery of a Calusa Indian burial mound suggests that life existed in the area several thousand years before Christ. The remains of this early Sarasota Property are still available for viewing by visitors; this exhibition gives an easily identifiable account of their primitive lifestyle. The Blackburn Point of today enjoys a park providing trails where walkers can enjoy the truly beautiful views of little Sarasota Bay and the Intra Coastal Waterway.
