discovered primitive settlements. Friendly Caloosa natives opened up their simple Sarasota homes and provided much needed sustenance and support to these early pioneers. The few who stayed, surviving the harsh frontier lifestyle settled in Fruitville, Bee Ridge, Sarasota and Osprey. The settlers established homesteads, there was no Sarasota Florida Real Estate until the land boom of the 1920's. Sarasota properties existed in small communities and travel to beaches like Little Siesta Key had to be by boat although by 1910 the area was attracting the interest of architects like Thomas Reed Martin. Coming from Chicago he was able to bring new design to Sarasota Florida Homes, designing more than 500 buildings during his 40 year career. Some of this Sarasota property is now identified by historic designation markers or bronze plaques. The people who really put Sarasota on the map were the Ringling brothers. Thompson one of Buffalo Bills circus managers along with twenty acres of waterfront property. By 1927 the Ringling Brothers and the Barnum and Bailey circus had moved their winter quarters to Sarasota, a decision which was to mark the economy, development and character of this hitherto quaint village. From then on the "Greatest show on earth" was to move Sarasota into a new era, buying Sarasota real estate meant owning a place in the "home of the American Circus". By 1940 the behind the scenes look at the circus were drawing 100,000 visitors a year. It was only in 1959 that the circus moved to Venice. By this time Sarasota Florida property was booming and has continued to do so until the present day.
